Summary :

Joint Statement and Memorandum of Understanding agreeing principles for pursuing bilateral talks. In Joint Statement, parties agree to cooperate on: foreign relations issues of mutual concern; consultations with WTO; Information technology, esp. Y2K; liberalising visa and travel regime; humanitarian issues. Memorandum of Understanding signed between the foreign ministers of India and Pakistan. Both parties reaffirm commitment to implementing the Shimla Agreement. Parties commit to engage in bilateral negotiations on security; to give advance notice of ballistic missile flight tests; and notice of accidental or unauthorised use of nuclear weapons; moratorium on further nuclear test explosions; undertake and review confidence-building measures;
